Young Writers' Workshops, Deirdre Huston, Hassocks

Deirdre is a qualified Key Stage 2 teacher with some years experience in junior and middle schools. She now concentrates on her writing and running the Young Writers' Workshops.

Deirdre has completed courses with the Open College of the Arts and Sussex University, including the two year Certificate of Creative Writing at Sussex University. She opted for poetry courses for fun, myth and history courses for inspiration and a long novel course to gain support and feedback.

Deirdre finds that the workshops embody many of her favourite aspects of teaching: the chance to build a positive relationship with students and to watch them progress in leaps and bounds plus the opportunity to share her love of writing and literature with pupils who never cease to stun her with their original perspective and turn of phrase. There's a buzz about the workshops which it's hard to ignore!
